Quikslope6 requires the data to be stored in a SQL server. Quikslope6 can utilise SQL2005, SQL2008, SQL2012 and SQL2014. Your site IT people may be able to give access to a full SQL version. This is the best option because data will be maintained with backups by the DBA (database administrator). Also, all Quikslope6 users can access the data centrally.
But to get Quikslope6 up and running, you can install MS SQL2012 Express version which is a free version from Microsoft. This means that the server will be available on your computer only, and other Quikslope6 users will access the data to your computer (peer to peer). This works, but is not the best situation. Installing SQL Express is a good way to get started when installing Quikslope6 for the first time.
Interestingly, Leica GeoMoS installs SQL Express on the Geomos instrument control computer. But then we use Softrock’s Autosync program to continually transfer data to the central server.
